The school bus came at 8:30. I used to go to my friend Kim’s house in the morning to watch cartoons because we didn’t have a TV. We were supposed to leave at 8:20 to make it to the bus stop, but Gumby was on until 8:30. What’s a girl to do?

Art Clokey, legendary stop-motion animator created Gumby and his pony pal Pokey too in 1955 with little green and orange slabs of clay, a rolling pin and a cookie cutter. I hadn’t seen Gumby since the mid-80’s when I went to a Claymation Festival hosted by Art Clokey, but he’s been going strong and Gumby the Movie was released on DVD in April 2008.
