Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, 2007

Enticed by her siren song
I walk to the edge of the sea.
She flirts and flounces
spuméd ruffles tease my toes,
beckoning me,
drawing me in.
Gently tugging and loosening
my ties to the land.

Wrapt in a tourmaline gown
shot with sun-diamonds,
she twines my ankles
with seagreen grass.

I am buoyant,
borne aloft.
I succumb to her rhythm
slowly twirling,
with just one toe
in the shifting sands.

Gently carried by the tide,
I am held in her liquid embrace.
